As summer winds down and school backpacks come back out, it’s the perfect time to pause and reconnect as a family. At Unity of Oak Park, we’re celebrating the spiritual power of Imagination—a gift from God that allows us to dream, create, and envision what’s possible.
✨August’s Theme: The Power of Imagination
Imagination helps us see beyond what is and dream into what could be. It invites us to approach new experiences—like the start of a school year—with curiosity, openness, and joy. Whether your children are heading into a new classroom or you're navigating new family routines, this is a powerful moment to lean into imagination and spiritual grounding.
Family Affirmation for August: With each new thought, I imagine, create, and grow in love and light.
🌞 Family Activity: Imaginative Prayer Space
Create a special prayer or meditation space in your home or backyard—a cozy, peaceful spot just for stillness. Let your children help design it with nature items, pillows, or meaningful objects. Explain that this space is a sacred place they can visit anytime they want to feel grounded, calm, or connected.
Then, invite your children to imagine a peaceful place in their mind—a beach, a treehouse, a sunny hilltop, or this space you created at home—where they feel completely safe, loved, and joyful. As they sit in stillness or pray, guide them to "go" to this place whenever they need to. This becomes a tool they can use anytime:
If they feel anxious or overwhelmed at school, they can pause, count to 10, and imagine their peaceful place.
If they’re feeling sad, they can visit that space and focus on something exciting or hopeful.
When they’re joyful, they can go there to say thank you.
This small practice empowers children (and adults!) to use their imagination not just for creativity—but for calm, connection, and spiritual strength.
💛 Wishing you a joyful, centered, and Spirit-filled start to your school year! We invite you to join us each Sunday at Unity of Oak Park for Youth Education that is at 10am during our Service Time. Youth meets in the chapel.
