Thurs., Sept. 12
Held annually on the second Thursday in September, World Day of Prayer unites Unity and draws in New Thought partner communities for a 24-hour period of prayer practice. We invite the entire Unity of Oak Park community to join others from around the world in prayer, as we dissolve our personal barriers by realizing God within us and among us is the active source of Life, Love, and Wisdom. You can participate by submitting a prayer to Silent Unity online and lighting a virtual candle. You can also join us on the Unity Facebook page to connect with people from all over the world and watch the live-streamed prayer service at 11am CST on worlddayofprayer.org. Or you can simply take time during that day to simply sit in prayer on your own time, using this guiding prayer:
Breathing in to prayer, I am in awe of the unbound spirit, the in¬finite presence within and around me. God is vitality in my breath, beauty in the natural world, strength in my determination, and compassion in my acts of service. I recognize God in the spaciousness of the universe as well as in my limitless dreams. Let me set my sight beyond where I have seen before, into the vast reality of divine power and presence. Let me draw upon divine power and presence in order to fulfill my great potential. In the harmony of prayer, my heart beats to the rhythm of God. The pulse of infinite life moves me, nourishes me, and empowers me to give life to my dreams. And so it is, Amen.
Sat., Oct. 19, 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM, and Sun., Oct. 20, Noon to 5:00 PM.
Open House Chicago is an annual event for the public to explore Chicago's rich architecture. Unity of Oak Park has been selected as one of the spaces to visit. Oct. 19 & 20 (Saturday and Sunday) we will be hosting visitors to our church. We are asking for the congregation's support by volunteering a few hours. In the past, over 1200 visitors attended, so you can see we need volunteers. If you would like to help on Oct. 19 or 20, please call the Center or sign up in the Book Room. Contact Sheila if you have any questions. This is a fun event, and we don't want you to miss out on this exciting opportunity. Blessings
Tai Chi for Health
Every First and Third Sunday, from 9:00 - 9:30 pm (no meeting on Sept. 1).
Often, tai chi is referred to as meditation in motion. It is one of the most effective exercises for the health of mind and body. Slow and gentle movements enable the qi or life force, to flow smoothly and powerfully throughout the body. Practice of tai chi results in harmony. Dr. Paul Lam, a family physician and a tai chi practitioner for more than 40 years developed a range of Tai Chi for Health programs. Sheila Swann-Guerrero, MS, CTRS became a certified instructor after attending Dr. Lam’s Instructor Training June 2018. Sheila brings her desire to serve UOP and passion for tai chi together to offer beginning Tai Chi. Please feel welcome to join us to learn and practice tai chi together.
